O movimento estudantil brasileiro e a crise das utopias
Palavras-chave
The author advances his arguments so as to justify a set of propositions and theses, among which: a) in a democratic society the so called student movement organizes itself around the discussion and execution of policies linked to the construction of that society’s future, whose configuration derives from a set of whishes, anticipations, or ‘utopias’; b) between 1945 and 1964, the Brazilian society, in the context of some administration chosen by the people’s vote, decided to rebuild itself following the model of the western industrialized nations, in this way opening itself to the assimilation of utopias then called “nationalism”, “socialism”, “developmentism”; c) the student movement is organized as an instrument for spreading up some political possibilities of such utopias, many of them finding their beginning of accomplishment during the course of the so called Anos Dourados (Brazil’s Golden Years – 1950-60); d) during the dictatorial period (1964 -1983), the option for the authoritarian development policies imposes the civil society to change strategy and tactics, from this moment on several segments of the student movement choosing the guerrilla war; e) at the end of the authoritarian dependent development project, the student movement finds its way into the fight for the society redemocratization with the improvement of their institutions, a movement that will be checked not only by the old elite leading the so called New Republic, but also by the emergency of a new international context: the fall of Berlin Wall, globalization and neo-liberal policies; f) the end of the Era of Utopias implies the reflux in the evolution of the brazilian social movements. As a final thesis, the conclusion that the lack of interest in politics characterizing our present moment is explained by our elites’ rejection of the need for building up of a project of Nation, preferring a political accommodation compromise full of risks as to the future of our social formation.
