Resumo
Este estudo de caso discute o papel do editor ao publicar livros escritos por autores afrodescentes no Brasil e no Reino Unido, e o impacto das obras em ambas as sociedades. Esse paralelo entre os dois países torna-se uma questão cultural interessante e demonstra comportamentos similares em sociedades desenvolvidas e em desenvolvimento no tocante ao comprometimento em publicar livros com propósitos sociais. O editor é um importante agente que é capaz de dar voz a minorias / excluídos ao realizar seu trabalho. O panorama encontrado neste artigo tem gerado algumas discussões que ainda estão abertas e são infinitas no ponto de vista dos estudos culturais e da relação do editor com seu trabalho como agente de cultura. O editor demonstra-se consciente de seu papel social e, principalmente, consciente de sua importância ao publicar livros que promovem o debate e a tentativa de inclusão.

Abstract
This case study discusses the role of the editor when publishing books written by African descendent authors in Brazil and in the UK and the book’s impact on both societies. This parallel between the two countries turned into an interesting cultural issue and shows similar behaviors in developing and developed societies concerning the commitment to publishing books with social purposes behind them. The editor is an important agent that is able to give speech to minorities/excluded by doing his job. It was concluded that some discussions are still open and are endless in the point of view of cultural studies and the relationship of the editor with his work as an agent of culture. The editor appears to be aware of his role in the society and, mainly, aware of the importance of publishing books with not only literary value but also with a social relevance to the society.
