A modernização autoritária do jornalismo brasileiro
Palavras-chave
This article criticizes the dominant narrative that defines the reform of Rio de Janeiro’s newspaper Diário Carioca in the 1950s as the turning point for the improvement of Brazilian journalism. It maintains that this narrative reproduces the view of leading agents of the reform, and it is not able to deal with the complexity of the process. Alternatively, it proposes an interpretation of the reform as an authoritarian modernization process, which fostered a model of profissionalization without professionalism, and, contrary to the dominant view, it reinforced a conception of journalism as a literary, rather than informative practice.
