The growing interest of researchers and common readers in private papers, artists’ notebooks and (auto)biography turns personal letters, nowadays, a focus of attention in the editorial field. Some writers, like the case of Mário de Andrade, articulated their poetic work with professional discussion of aesthetic theory, so their letters afford the same value as philosophical essays. It is necessary to stress that the more complex a literary correspondence the more difficult is the task of getting it ready for publishing. The recent work of Eneida Maria de Souza organizing Correspondência – Mário de Andrade & Henriqueta Lisboa is an example of proficiency in preparing manuscripts, producing technical, informative and erudite notes, selecting iconographic material and writing an introductory critical essay to present the affective and sometimes tense exchange of texts and ideas between poets of very different beliefs and background.
