O Perfume e o perfumista: um “olhar” sobre os aromas para uso pessoal no século XVIII a partir da história de um assassino

Resumo
Jean-Baptiste Grenouille – personagem principal de Perfume, a story of a murderer (2006), filme dirigido por Tom Tykwer – é um homem obcecado por criar o melhor perfume conhecido a partir do aroma feminino. Quais eram os significados atribuídos ao perfume e o que significava ser perfumista no contexto da Paris de século XVIII, simultaneamente cidade da “corte perfumada” e “city of mud”? Para responder à questão, serão interpretados Pélissier, Baldini e Grenouille, os três perfumistas que comparecem na obra, à luz da trama fílmica e daquela apresentada pelos historiadores acerca dos odores, perfumes e perfumistas da França pré-revolucionária.

Abstract
Jean-Baptiste Grenouille – main character from Perfume: the story of a murderer, film directed by Tom Tykwer – is a man obsessed with creating the finest known perfume from the feminine scent. Which were the meanings attributed to the perfume and what did it mean to be a perfumer in Paris of the 18th century, simultaneously “city of the perfumed court” and “city of mud”? To answer the question, it will be interpreted Pélissier, Baldini and Grenouille, the three perfumers appearing in the story, in the light of the movie plot and and of what historians present about the scents, perfumes and perfumers of prerevolutionary France.
