Gladiador - uma arena de imagens

Resumo
A partir do filme Gladiador, de Ridley Scott, discute-se a construção das metaficções historiográficas contemporâneas, nas quais presente e passado se reúnem para se pensar a atualidade. No caso dessa película, as encenações da sociedade do espetáculo inspiram o olhar sobre as arenas de lutas do Império Romano. A interação entre ficção e história ressalta a natureza intertextual do passado e problematiza a possibilidade do conhecimento sobre ele.

Abstract
Based on a Ridley Scott film The Gladiator the construction of contemporary historiografical metafiction is discussed. Present and past are put together re-evaluating present times. In the specific case of this film, the performances of a spectacle society lead us to have a closer look at the Roman Empire fighting arenas. The interaction between fiction and history highlights the intertextual nature of the past questioning the possibility of really knowing it.
